Piladies Night

Bring your ass and your sass to class and celebrate your hilariously uncoordinated self. A gentle yet thorough Pilates-based workout for people who like fun, and f-words in general. Body positive, neurodivergent affirming, anti-ableist, and just generally a safe and welcoming experience. This class is open to all levels.

This is a semi-private class with only 3-4 spots per session. Please email if you’re interested in joining, or want to gather a couple friends to start your own class! My home studio is not wheelchair accessible. Please get in touch if you have access questions.

Restorative at Mothership

Love savasana? This class is for you! It’s basically a guided yoga lounge (nap?) session with periodic reminders to breathe and change position.

We’ll start with a gentle warmup to loosen our muscles and tune into our nervous systems. Then we’ll ease onto the floor for a series of simple poses supported by props. No experience necessary, bring your own blanket and any other favourite props (eye pillow, straps, bolster).

This is a sensory-soothing class that will use quiet music and gentle movement to calm the nervous system.

We’ll provide pillows, blocks and yoga straps. Please bring your own mat and any other favourite props (like bolsters or eye pillow).

The location is not wheelchair accessible. Please get in touch if you have questions about access or accommodations, we’ll help any way we can!

Winter Squash Soup

A deliciously warming soup packed with garlic, spices and vitamin C to boost your immune system in the winter months.

1 Butternut Squash
1 Acorn Squash
2 Apples, peeled
2″ piece fresh Ginger
4 cloves Garlic
1 large Carrot, peeled
1 large Potato
5 Tbsp. Coconut Oil, divided
1 tsp. Sage
1/2 tsp. Tumeric
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Cardamom
1/2 tsp. Cloves
Salt and Pepper
4-6 cups Chicken Broth

20150107_1237381. Preheat oven to 400°F. Cut squashes in half lengthwise, and scoop out guts and seeds. Coat with coconut oil, and place cut side up on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

2. Dice apple, ginger and garlic. Place them in a medium bowl and toss with 2 tablespoons oil and spices, then spoon into squash cavities.

3. Chop potato and carrot into 1″ pieces. Toss with another tablespoon of oil in the bowl used for squash filling to coat with remaining spices. Spread on a parchment lined baking sheet and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

4. Roast both pans for 40-60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until all vegetables are tender when pierced with a fork.

5. Using a blender or food processor, purée all ingredients with broth until smooth.

Note: If you are like me, I know that you are one of those who serve one portion after another, and in that case I think it is convenient to recommend something that has been working very well for me. 2 months ago I was researching the best phentermine alternatives that existed, so I tried the best one I found and the results are incredible. Now I can taste a delicious soup and be completely satisfied with the first course!

Ballet for Boomers and other Beginners starts Nov 7!

img_1960-cropWoohoo! By popular demand I’m launching an Easy Ballet Class in November.

Mondays 7:30-8:30pm, November 7 to December 19, 2016
DSN Drop-In Dance Centre, 236 Dundas Street, 2nd floor
Fall special: All 7 classes for $70, or Drop in $15

Come out and experience the joy of ballet! This easy class is open to beginners, boomers, and aspiring bun-heads of all kinds. Men and women are welcome, no previous experience required.

In this fun and flowing class we’ll focus on creative expression while moving with poise and grace. A gentle workout for both body and brain that will challenge your memory with patterns and simple choreography. Bizz will guide you through basic ballet technique and positions of the arms and legs. You’ll learn barre and centre work, as well as port de bras (arm movements) and traveling steps. There will be no jumping in this class and only minimal turns.

What to wear? Leggings or yoga pants that show your feet and ankles, with a fitted top or leotard. Ballet shoes are recommended but not required. Skirts may be worn as long as they don’t restrict movement.
